The Blue Ribbon Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse
Happening April 1-31, 2024 | Central Oregon
Learn how you can help end child abuse.
This April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Keep scrolling to learn what you can do to protect the children in your life and make your community safer for all kids.
Take these three simple steps:
Attend an Event.
Come to a family-friendly community event (like Communities for Kids) or attend a fundraiser to support local prevention programs.
Get Trained in Child Safety
Help strengthen your community’s defenses against child abuse. The more adults that get trained, the safer kids are! Sign up for a free child safety training near you.
Show your Support
This April, wear a Blue Ribbon or wristband to support child abuse survivors and raise awareness for child abuse prevention efforts. Look for Blue Ribbon displays around Central Oregon and pick up a free wristband to wear.
Support Children & Families
There are Central Oregon families living with immense stressors, risks, and chaos—none of which support a child’s health and safety. Join child abuse prevention organizations to help strengthen families and keep kids safe.
Become an advocate! An effective advocate is engaged and educated around the issues that impact struggling families and lead to increased risks of abuse and neglect. It takes all of us working together to address the barriers that perpetuate multi-generational issues of abuse and neglect. Contact MountainStar to learn more.
Keep kids safe.

The History of the Blue Ribbon Campaign
In 1989, Bonnie Finney lost her three-year-old grandson to abuse by her daughter’s boyfriend. Bonnie tied blue ribbons to her car to represent her grandson’s bruises, and the community joined in to support Bonnie and her family.
Over the past 30 years, the Blue Ribbon Campaign has grown into a nationwide event, bringing communities together to protect children. The Blue Ribbon Campaign is held in April to coincide with National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
This year marks the 15th annual Blue Ribbon Campaign in Central Oregon, thanks to our generous community sponsors. Communities across the region install displays of blue ribbons or blue pinwheels to raise awareness and show support for child abuse survivors.
Central Oregon’s Blue Ribbon Campaign is brought to you by KIDS Center and MountainStar Family Relief Nursery.
